Argentina's Economy Minister Makes Gaffe in Interview

Buenos Aires, March 13 (NA) – Minister of Economy Luis Caputo made a gaffe this Friday when speaking about the government's economic management. 'From here to the end of President Menem's mandate... President Milei... the economy will grow by 20%', the official corrected himself. Caputo's slip occurred during an interview on a news channel. The official defended the economic course, spoke about management, and mistakenly mentioned Carlos Menem first, and not Milei, according to the Argentine News Agency. Additionally, he expressed that inflation will take time to decrease, due to 'repercussions' from last year caused by electoral tension from opposition criticism, and dismissed tension with businessmen after the criticism that the president made against Paolo Rocca during Argentina Week. Caputo on the rise in inflation: 'We were expecting the data because the rise in meat prices hit hard'. Caputo stated this Friday that the government 'expected' the February inflation data of 2.9% because 'the rise in meat prices and tariffs also hit hard'.
